To have found God and still to pursue Him is a paradox of love, scorned indeed by the too-easily-satisfied religious person, but justified in happy experience by the children of the burning heart. Saint Bernard of Clairvaux stated this holy paradox in a musical four-line poem that will be instantly understood by every worshipping soul:

We taste Thee, O Thou Living Bread,
And long to feast upon Thee still:
We drink of Thee, the Fountainhead
And thirst our souls from Thee to fill.

Come near to the holy men and women of the past and you will soon feel the heat of their desire after God. Let A. W. Tozer’s pursuit of God spur you also into a genuine hunger and thirst to truly know God.

About the Author

This is wonderfully written, very insightful and truth-filled MUST read for any disciple/believer of Jesus. AW Tolzer books are always fantastic but this is one of his best by far. I can’t recommend this enough.

  • Tozer’s Best

I decided to read this book because I always see it on all the lists of top Christian books. Tozer wrote The Pursuit of God almost 60 years ago to help believers have a deeper awareness of the King of the Nations. It's a fast read, but one that should probably be read more than once. I enjoyed the prayers at the end of each of the ten chapters and found the retelling of the story of Abraham and Isaac in The Blessedness of Possessing Nothing chapter to be particularly meaningful. Some interesting facts that I learned about Tozer include that he was once a pastor in Indianapolis, and he entered the ministry without either high school or college training. He educated himself by years of diligent study and a constant prayerful seeking of the mind of God. Absolutely remarkable and very inspiring. I'm glad I read this book and would recommend it to those who truly want to learn how to nourish their soul.

Tozer is simple, easy to read but incredibly profound. For the uninitiated Bible student or new believer who does not have at their disposal a wealth of theological know how or vocab will find this book easy to grasp although the concepts are deep. This book was written several decades ago but does not feel dated in the slightest. I was looking for a spiritual breath of fresh air and this certainly did the trick. These are fundamentals we all should become reacquainted with over and over.

What a compass is for a sea-faring captain in the middle of the ocean so is The Pursuit Of God for a human travailing through the wilderness of one's pilgrimage in this present life. I'm thankful to have heard about A.W. Tozer and have read this book over from cover to cover and still find it fascinating for its practical and result oriented applications.
  • A must read for any disciple of Jesus

I have heard of A.W. Tozer's work many times before, but finally decided to pick this up and i'm glad I did. Even though originally penned over 50 years ago, Tozer's work proves that sound biblical doctrine knows no era or age. This book speaks to the heart of Christians who know there is more to their faith than what they currently grasp or understand. Well worth the read.
